Scrap Fabric Decorative Vases & Candle Lanterns

We finished up our MOPS year. For our group, we traditionally give the childcare workers a bouquet of flowers, with one of our moms giving a demonstration on how to cut and arrange them.

After picking the vases up from the dollar store, I decided that they were too plain-jane and needed something to spruce them up. I had several pom-pom flowers from another project that never got its feet off the ground. The rosettes were made from my scrap fabric pile.

There was one male childcare worker and I didn't think that a rosette adorned vase would say, "thank you," to him. More like, "I wish they hadn't." lol So I raided the beads leftover from a previous MOPS craft. Not sure if I like the effect or not...but since it was late the night before I had few options (yes, Walmart is open 24 hours,  but I wanted to go to bed at a decent time...next time I'll try to start the project earlier to allow time for the "oops")

for our male childcare worker
maybe a "bouquet" of slim jims
instead of flowers...next year

Definitely a project I enjoyed putting together, especially since there was a variety of rosette colors. Can't decided which one is my favorite. Its a toss-up between the white rosette or the magenta pom-pom. Either would look spectacular with sunflowers.

all lined up and waiting for their flowers

A tea-light candle was taped to each thank-you card so after the flowers wilted they could throw it in and light it up. NEXT YEAR...if we do this again (and we probably will, seems to be our tradition), I'll include some dollar store pebble rocks in the bottom. Think it will work better for the candle option.

Wish I'd lite one up last night while I had them, just to see what the candle effect looked like through the burlap fabric (also left over from a previous MOPS project). But, bed was calling. Next year....

Next year....at least I'll have this post to refer to and build upon this project. :)

  13. This looks like something my wife would like. She has been into candles lately and has been wanting some new candle holders. She loves doing crafts and has a lot of spare fabric lying around.
