Glider Bench Refresh

It is absolutely amazing how repainting and restaining something can completely transform the look of a tired, worn-out object. The metamorphosis never ceases to amaze me! And that is what this post is all about. Finding a perfectly functional, yet tired and worn-out, glider bench and giving it a fresh look.

Testing out the bench in front of the thrift store.
Glides like a charm. Not rickety at all.
$34.99 price tag. Not too bad.

Before any washing or sanding. Gross.

I had mixed feelings about the decorative elements
on the ends of the frame. To keep or not to keep?

The most time-consuming part of this project was disassembling and reassembling all the pieces. It was worth it to make painting and staining an easier process. My son helped removed the slats. He had fun learning how to use a couple of new tools (new to him).

My son helped me remove the decorative elements
while prepping it to paint. They simply popped out.
It immediately looked better.

Two coats took a can and a half of spray paint.

The top pieces already coated with Early American stain.
Bottom ones are awaiting their turn.

And done! Really really happy with how this turned out! Its a beautiful addition to our back patio.

It's a favorite spot to be!
With or without ice cream in hand.

The glider bench was well worth the effort and I love having a "custom" bench to chill on. Here's to happy family memories spent on the back porch

Pin Me!

  1. Great price Audra. Removing the fancy bits changed the glider bench and the colour you chose = great addition to your deck.

    1. Thanks Joy! Its nice to have some color amidst all the wooden brown patio furniture. .

  2. Love that pretty color you have painted it Audra!! It is great when you can save something!

    1. Thanks Mary! I'm loving the color, too. Happy to have half a spray can left...what else can I paint? lol

  3. That is a beautiful glider, you lucked out! I don't think they make them like that anymore. And how great that your son helped! Great job, enjoy it!

    1. We're enjoying the glider rocker. I've only seen one other like it in front of someone else's house but never in the store. I'm grateful to have found one with real wood slats.

  5. Oh my that looks so nice now. I love the stained wood against the dark paint. Great job!
